SRPSKI

ENGLISH
Our movement, Opre Roma Serbia gathered today on the 8th of march to stand and fight together with our sisters, Romani women’s from Ukraine, undergoing a horrifying experience as we did in the former Yugoslavian wars. We wish the EU and the international community would have been free of racism and less hypocritical and ignorant to recognize the specifically difficult position of Roma in the war in Ukraine. However, as they were ignorant and silent on the experience of Roma from Yugoslavian wars, we do not expect it to be any different this time. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, no single political leader in Europe has taken a stand on the experience of Roma.
Therefore, we are here to celebrate the power of Romani women who fought for their bare lives in this war, many who fled, leaving their husbands and properties back to save their children. These women knew that similar to their experience of racism and inequality in Ukraine, they would have to face the same and many more new challenges in an unknown country they have arrived in.
We, the Roma have learned that in times of crisis, we have to rely on each other as no one else will protect us. This 8th march, Romani women from all across Europe are dedicated to our sisters, the powerful Romani women from Ukraine. To the brave women that fighting for their children, families, for our communities.
While Europe is silent, Roma men and women are not, we will make our voices heard and our communities survive new challenges and progress, as we did before!
